Day 1 back in YYC

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

The road from Vernon to Calgary was long and wet. Ben Howard, John Mayer, and Jack Jackson got me through. God bless them. Today was our first full day living back in the big city. Im not ashamed to say that we are yet to start unpacking. Instead we've been spending our time visiting with some of the people we've been missing over the past four years. Also, in preparation for the half marathon that we're running in October (Surprise!) our minds (moreso than our bodies) took us on our first run in YYC. The road was flat. But beautiful.

First run back in Calgary
Cracks along our path disappear when we look further down
the road. Keep your head up- keep your heart strong- run
always.
I don't joke around when it comes to shoes ;)

See you later

With our moving date fast approaching, Ryan and I have been reminiscing about past memories, our favorite moments, and the things and people that we will miss the most. Here are a few of those things:

The smell of the lake breeze in the morning. The ladies at Tim Horton's on 25th Ave who know us by name. Wednesday night lawn cutting. The smell of fresh cut grass. The man we call "DUI". Buddy learning to jump off the dock. The Okanagan sun beaming in our bedroom window. Afternoon walks at Marshall Fields. Star gazing on the dock. Scotch on the rocks. The drive down Okanagan Landing Road. Marianne Fisher. "Predzy". Ice cream cake occasions. Casa De Mario's. Beergaritas. Beer can chicken. Davidson's Orchards. Monday &Thursday Farmer's Market days. Roses. Late night skinny dipping. Clearing the wake. Getting boat gas--just for the popsicles. The smell of sunscreen. JAM. Blue Heron Nachos & Caesars. Sand covered barefeet. The Paddle Wheel Park Regatta. Tye die traditions. 10 PM dinners. Togetherness. Dozens of dirty beach towels. Postponing laundry day...for another day at the beach. Five day bike trips with family. Yard work & dirt under our nails. The Fall silence. Raking millions (maybe billions) of chestnuts off the front lawn. Dump days. The start of the IHL. Go Sharks Go. The Civic arena. Our private dance floor in the kitchen. Peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. Practicing our salsa moves on the dock...Not realizing the neighbor was watching. Standing ovations. Bi Weekly Hurricanes. Our first thanksgiving. The BMO Half Marathon. You've Got Mail. Times ten. Pages and pages of essay writing at the kitchen table. "Homework " in front of the TV. Shovelling the driveway. Shovelling our winter path to the hot tub. Winter walks on the landing. Christmas light assembly. Frosty and Santa. Crockpot chilli. Snowshoeing with goodie four paws at Silverstar. Buddy's red snow boots. Losing Buddy's snow boots. Buying new snow boots. Sandwich tossing New years eve with best friends. Hot chocolate stained cement. Chipped ankle bones. Swimming in February. Boat rescuing. The Charlie Brown tree at BX Creek. BLTs from The Well. Hockey Night in Canada. Early morning last minute skipping class sleep-ins. Four day weekends. Seven classes in one semester. Mission Impossible II. The best deal you've ever seen at Cineplex. Smashbrowns. XL steeped teas. Cream eggs & Dr. Peppers. Academic procrastination. Spring cleaning. Yearly depression about not playing in "the show". The first bundled up runs of the season. Our UBCO graduating class of 2013.

We have loved every minute of living in this town. It has given us more than we could have ever imagined. One day we will be back-- to give back to the people and the community that have shaped us into the people we are today. It's not goodbye, see you later.
